Writing is damn hard. And getting into the writing industry is even harder. I’m no expert, by any means, but I figure if it’s hard enough to get into on your own, sharing resources and creating discussion can’t make it any worse.

If I find any competitions, jobs, articles, submission openings, prompts, exercises, advice, wild rumours or ghosts-of-writers-past I’ll be sure to let you know about it.

I come across all this info on my own and find all the details on the web (what I see is what I write, and the links to the source websites are provided in the posts). All the competitions I post about have little to no entry fee, and as writers, I think that’s the way (a-ha a-ha) we like it.

If you want to know more about the origins of ‘little rockets’, you can read my very first post here.

As for me, my name is Kyra Bandte and I’m a writer and reader from NSW, Australia. I work full-time as a content writer in Sydney and graduated from the University of Wollongong with a BA/BCA with Distinction, majoring in English Literature and Creative Writing.

I mostly write prose and poetry, but have dabbled in journalism, copywriting, ghostwriting, and web content. I’ll do pretty much anything I can get my typey little fingers on.

You can find some of my favourite books and what I’m reading now on Goodreads, and find even more articles by me on Writer’s Edit.

I buy books faster than I can read them, and I like vanilla ice-cream with almonds.

  1. Decided to visit your blog today and must say I love it, especially the competitions and opportunities entries; it truly is hard to get into writing industry, so it is nice to have resources like these easy accessible. Best of luck with your studies!

  2. I admire your dedication and effort to writing– all the research can be time consuming in and of itself, let alone actually writing for competitions, or submissions, or the odd freelance job! I’m even more impressed that you’re doing it all while a student. Good on you!

I’m always happy to find the blogs of other writers and I look forward to reading more 🙂

    • Thanks Julie! I really appreciate it :] Writing is such a big part of my life, and there’s so much to learn and think about that I can never get bored of it. Just checking out your blog now, loving it so far 😀

  3. *Waves* Hi, Kyra. I’m a fellow Aussie writer, also from NSW. Great blog you’ve got here. It’s nice you share comps when you find them. I do the same. Look forward to reading future posts from you 🙂
