Getting Started

I’ve been putting off writing a story. In fact, I should be doing it right now. But first, I thought I’d share a little Mark Twain wisdom, something to kick me into gear and get this prose out.

The secret of getting ahead is getting started. And the secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.

I love ticking things off, and tiny tasks are totally my thing. So that’s what I’ve done: my story is planned, my deadline is Friday, and I’m about to tackle that first task.

Thanks, Mr. Twain! Your secret is safe with me…

  1. This describes me as well. Looking at a story, or novel, can sometimes look like an insurmountable task, but when broken up into smaller pieces, it all looks much easier to accomplish. Great Twain wisdom.
