When I was little I used to love listening to my mum recite Banjo Paterson. ‘The Man From Ironbark’ was always my favourite, I think because it was dark but funny. ‘Mulga Bill’s Bicycle’ comes a close second.
There’s something special about bush poetry, something in the way the rhyme mixes with our Aussie vernacular. I’ll be honest, some bush poetry is just awful. But some of it is really awesome. If you’re into bush verse, you can try your luck with this poetry comp. Because let’s be honest, the world needs more bicycle stacks and practical jokes involving razors.
