Bristol Short Story Prize 2013

I hadn’t heard of this prize until a few weeks ago, but now The Bristol Short Story Prize seems to be popping up in all my feeds. Despite its name, this competition is open to writers from all over the world, with entries accepted through snail-mail and online (yay, email submissions).

Works can be any theme, any genre, any style but there is an £8 entry fee. You can read through all the submission guidelines here.

The prize closes on April 30 2013, which is plenty of time to write and re-write for the 4000 word limit. Winners and shortlisted writers get cash prizes, gift cards and their story published in the 6th edition of the Bristol Short Story Prize Anthology.

The cool thing is that last year’s first place winner was John Arnold, an Australian Brisbane-based writer, who won for his story ‘Naked as Eve’. Here’s an interview between BSSP and Arnold.

Let’s show the world more awesome Aussie writing in 2013, I reckon.
