I’m heading to Wollongong City Gallery on November 4 for a sweet Sunday poetry reading run by the South Coast Writers Centre. As part of Viva la Gong, SCWC put on a competition called ‘Poetry of Place’ and asked poets to get inspired by artwork in the gallery’s ‘You Are Here’ exhibition.
Submissions are closed for the competition, but winners will be announced on the day and a bunch of crazy poetry cats will be reading their pieces (yours truly included). Luckily if you missed the competition there’s an open mic session so you can still grasp your two minutes of poet-glory. I’ll be updating with a post after the event, telling everyone it was a raging success and blowing raspberries at those who missed out on the chance to read their work and feel awesome about it.
So mark this one in your diaries – come along to the ‘Poetry and Place’ reading and listen to some local writers reading local poems and maybe bump into me (figuratively speaking). For more info about the day visit this event page or the SCWC website.
There’s nothing better than dragging some friends to an art gallery, kicking back with some poems and feeling like you should be holding a pipe or a glass of sherry.
